Although I have many problems with the accuracy of the ARMA article, it still probably the best summary of the prevalent myths about historical or period fencing, HEMA and WMA and their refutations. Well done for resurrecting it.

I very much so agree with you on this. It seems when writing articles like this there is always some divisive and underlying attempt to profess ones own authority and to discredit others, but in this case much of what he writes seems sensible. I don’t claim to be a Western Martial artist but only a fencer who loves it’s history so i will not comment on accuracy, however, it seems that no one really can with any degree of authority that would not lead to endless rounds of conjecture. I did enjoy the snarky comment about those who feel that a katana could cut through armor plate. That made me smile ha ha there isn’t much worth arguing about that one.
